Sonoma Valley · Estate grown
Wine from a gravel bench above Cutler Creek, seven rooms above the old cellar, and dinner where the last vine row ends.
The estate
The bench drains fast and holds the afternoon heat; the fog comes up the creek by six. Our grapes ripen slowly between the two, and we pick each block on the morning it tastes right, not the morning it measures right.
Four families have farmed this hillside since 1974. The Zinfandel on the lower slope was planted before any of them, and it still gives us forty cases in a generous year.
The wines
Native yeast, neutral oak and a light hand. Every bottle is grown within a ten-minute walk of the cellar door.
Lime pith, crushed fennel, wet stone. Half fermented in concrete, so it stays taut through a long lunch.
$38Meyer lemon, toasted hazelnut and a little salt at the finish. Eleven months in old barrels, no new oak.
$54Wild strawberry, blood-orange peel, the smell of the forest floor after rain. Best slightly cool.
$62Bramble, black pepper and dried sage. Head-trained vines, dry-farmed, picked over three mornings.
$48Cassis, cedar shavings, graphite. Tannins like fine suede; it will be better in 2030 and fine tonight.
$95Our nine best barrels of the year, held back six years. Dried cherry, tobacco leaf, a long quiet finish.
$160Tastings & tours
Every visit is seated and by reservation, so the room never feels like a bar. Walk-ins welcome on the terrace when there's space.

Five current releases at the long table or out under the oak, with a plate of estate olives, aged cheese and warm bread from the wood oven.

A walk through the vines to the cave cut into the hill in 1981. Taste three wines from barrel, months before bottling, then two finished ones beside them.

The cellar's back room, just your party. Older vintages of Cabernet and Number Nine side by side, with a cellar host and a small seasonal menu.

The Inn at Fenhollow
Limewashed walls, oak floors and windows that open onto the vines. No televisions; a record player and a decanter instead.
A queen bed facing east over the Sauvignon Blanc block. Morning sun, a deep soaking tub, coffee left at the door at seven.
A sitting room with a fireplace, a king bed and a private stair down to the cellar's tasting bar.
The original 1920s farmhouse under the big oak: two bedrooms, a kitchen, a porch for long evenings.
Every stay includes breakfast from the estate garden, a seated tasting for two and a bottle of the current release waiting in the room.
The Table
Thursday to Sunday, one menu, cooked over vine cuttings and oak. Most of it grows within sight of the terrace.
One long table in the vineyard. $195
Six Zinfandels back to 2009. $210
Dungeness crab and Chardonnay by the fire. $185
Spring garden, the new rosé, a walk after. $120
The Fenhollow Club
Members get each release before it opens to anyone else, a table when the terrace is full, and wines that never leave the estate.
Pause or leave any time. Shipments in March, June and October.
Weddings & gatherings
One wedding a weekend, May through October. The ceremony on the lawn, dinner on the terrace, the whole inn for your family.
